Sony Delays FX5 Shipping Again — No Confirmed Date Before Late October

The FX5, announced by Sony on July 22, 2026, slots into Cinema Line between the FX3 and FX6, with a newly developed stacked sensor, Open Gate recording, internal X-OCN RAW, and a $4,900 price tag. Shipping was originally set for around mid-August before Sony announced a first delay, citing a "final quality adjustment" it said would not affect the camera's performance, and pushed the date to September.

In a new statement issued by Sony Japan two days ago, shipping was pushed back again to "late October or later" as only an approximate, unconfirmed target, with the company apologizing for announcing the postponement so close to the previously scheduled date and declining to disclose the exact technical cause behind the repeated delays. The postponement also covers related accessories: the DVF-EL1 electronic viewfinder, the XLR handle unit, and the timecode sync cable.
